Hi all,

Happy New Year!

It has been a while since I popped over the 'Ranch and moseyed around; so long in fact, that last time I posted the Java EE exams were still called SCWCD! (Instead of that monstrously long new name!)

So looking towards 2012, we're busy revising the SCWCD Study Companion title to bring it in line with the latest Java EE 6 Oracle 1Z0-899 exam. The major new topics (which are covered briefly in the current SCWCD 5 Study Companion appendix) are annotations/dynamic deployment and asynchronous request handling, along with some maintenance changes in other areas. Plus a whole raft of errata from you all to sift though - makes for a fun(!) few days but thank you all for your feedback, corrections and suggestions, even if we haven't been able to reply to each one individually. They have all been noted and will be attended to.

So really my question is for those who either are studying for the exam now, or have recently passed it: is/was there anything particularly hard, something new and confusing, or anything you didn't expect to come up in the exam? Whilst we're shuffling and tweaking, it would be worthwhile (particularly if you're yet to sit the exam) to get your opinions and ideals for the new edition, and try to incorporate as much useful material as possible.

Hope your studying goes well for you this year ;)

Charles.

Great!! This is a really good news!!

And when it will be available on line?

I'm planning the OCE WCD 6 exam and I'm looking forward to start.
Meanwhile, do you think I can start reading the previous release (Sun Certified Web Component Developer Study Companion: With Java EE 6 Preview (Exams 310-083 and 310-084))?

Thanks a lot.

If you are already experienced in developing JSPs and Servlets , it might be better if you start with the specifications. Otherwise, using a book based on the latest version (such as Murach's) would be better. For certification,s it is best to purge all the outdated information from your brain as quickly as possible and if you keep using books based on older versions, it will be harder to do
But of course, most of the underlying concepts are same and if you are able to filter out the outdated stuff from new, then any book would be a good starting point.

Charles, this is good news.

Looking forward to it. I love your study companions and I was just looking for study options on the new (1Z0_899) JEE6 exam.

Any idea when is the expected release date? If it's few days I can wait for it, but if it will take time, then I will just search for other paths or downgrade to JEE5 exam.

Hello everybody,

I did my OCJP last august and I'm heading for the ocpjwcd - I emailed the publisher about the C. E. Lyons book and they game me an estimate of end of this April. So hopefully we will get our hands on the latest revision within month.

looks to me that it's out 31 May 2012 (in uk according to amazon at least) still debating what to do next after OCPJP, may look at this ias it seems to be the only one with a dedicated study guide. Will be my first venture into EE, I've only ever worked with core / desktop java...

Hi all,

Apologies for not replying sooner - time seems to fly by!

The final revisions are going in the new Oracle / Java EE 6 version of the book in the next couple of weeks. There has been a lot of ground to cover with the new objectives, including 3 new chapters and various other modifications throughout, examples, new questions, errata incorporation etc. As usual we're trying to get this as perfect as possible on the first pass, rather than rush to publication and contain many errors.

Bear with us - the proof should be with the printers by the end of this month and then it usually takes a couple of weeks before it becomes available to ship out.

We are working with distribution partners in the UK, Europe, USA and India so should be available for ordering locally

Hi,

Why is Java EE 6 Web Component Developer Certified Expert Study Companion: OCPJWCD/OCWCD/SCWCD Oracle Exam IZ0-899 3rd Edition by Charles E. Lyons (31 Jul 2012) still not available?
There is a date on Amazon that says it will be released on 31 Jul 2012 but it still hasn't been released... That's disappointing

There could be many reasons for the delay. It is usually beyond author's control. But you can start with the free JEE 6 Tutorial published by Oracle while you are waiting for the book

Hi all,

Sorry for not coming around and keeping you updated.

I had a copy of the first production run in my hand yesterday and it looks great. From this I'm told:

Amazon globals: The various Amazon regionals should have it available later this week (you can pre-order)
Amazon Kindle: As soon as Amazon sort it out - shouldn't be too long I would imagine
USA and Europe: Other distributors should have copies to other outlets (online and bookshops) by end of month
Asia: There has been a delay with the Asian publication, so I'd expect that during late September
Oceania (Australia): September

We've expanded the book overall with 10% more content and revision questions, as well as rectifying errors (mostly reported by readers - thanks to everyone!) from the previous edition... it's a beefy size!

Nonetheless, it's finally here

Charles.

Hi , first to all, I am very nice suprised. because I am preparing my (old named) SCWCD for the next year. I have bay the e-practice labs software also. I want know if the only support for the book is paper, because I need ship the book to Argentina and also know if there is refound, for example I had bay three times by Amazon.com the book SCMAD , the first nevers come to my home, the second the seller refound me, and the third the book (that already I have ) comes !.

While I am reading the oficial documentation from J2EE Documentation I think that this book can be a very good material.

Regards and thanks!

I bought the book, and I started reading it and I found that the code bundled war file, which is referenced in the book, is incomplete (following link)
http://www.garnerpress.com/catalogue/BK0332/BK0332Download.war

The book talk about plenty of code with all the examples of the book, but in war file only appears to be 6 different chapters and there are much more examples in the book. Some chapters not included in the file make references to the file, but there any code of the chapter there.
Chapter 18 is talking about the examples and there is nothing in the code bundled file.

Is there any other place to download the code examples?

Hi All,

Any news regarding the Kindle Edition? I am really disparate for an electronic version since the paperback edition is going to cost me double its price to reach me here.

Your help is highly appreciated.

Thanks.
