Unable to retrieve Workspace using ResourcePlugin.getWorkspace()

Hi guys,

I'm trying the below code to retrieve an Eclipse project named "Sample_project" from my current workspace.

IWorkspaceRoot myWorkspaceRoot = ResourcesPlugin.getWorkspace().getRoot();
		IProject myProject = myWorkspaceRoot.getProject("Sample_project");
		if (myProject.exists() && !myProject.isOpen())
			try {
				myProject.open(null);
			} catch (CoreException e) {
				// TODO Auto-generated catch block
				e.printStackTrace();
			}

I am getting an IllegalStateException for the method getWorkspace() stating that the Workspace is closed.
I am not sure what I am doing wrong here.
Any help asap will be appreciated.
