Hi,

Do you know when the Oracle open the test schedule for Java SE 7 OCA? I don't find it to register.

Thank you!

I wrote a little article about this over at TheServerSide.com (cross referenced it with this thread):

When will the Java 7 OCAJP and OCPJP exams be available from Oracle?

***UPDATE: The OCAJP exam has gone live, and Oracle has released the specs. More information on this JavaRanch Java SE I Exam thread. ***

The Beta testing for the OCAJP exam, Oracle Certified Associate Java Programmer, only recently completed, and it's currently in the "Post Beta Review" phase.

It was about late December that the beta exam testing for OCAJP closed. On the beta exam page from Oracle, they state that you should wait about twelve weeks from the date the exam finishes up its beta before the actual exam is available for the taking, which takes us to about the end of March or beginning of April if they run their ship on time, which they don't always do.

Exam:1Z1-803 Java SE 7 Programmer I (OCAJP7)
Status: Post Beta Review
Close Date: December 17, 2011

OCAJP Exam Objectives (aka Java SE 7 Programmer I)

Note that now the OCAJP is required before taking the OCPJP certification, with OCPJP (Oracle Certified Professional Java Programmer) being the equivalent of the coveted SCJP (Sun Certified Java Professional) designation. That means people will need to take two exams to get the Professional designation. Fortunately though, you can write the exam without any formal training from Oracle. So just study hard and prepare for the test.

OCAJP is going to be getting plenty more attention in the near future.

Dec 16, 2011 was the last day for OCA Programmer I certification. Programmer II certifications are now open.

You got me excited there! I just went to the Oracle Beta Exam Page to see if the Java II exam was in an open Beta, but it's still being scheduled:

1Z1-804 Java SE 7 Programmer II In Development TBD 11 weeks from exam close date 10 weeks from exam close date

The Java II Upgrade exam has gone out of Beta and is in the Post Beta Review, but the Java 7 II exam, aka OCPJP, is still being prepped for the beta stage. When it goes out of beta I'll be updating this thread that I'm maintaining on various OCAJP Java 7 tutorials, news and updates.

The 'Beta' exam is no longer available for OCAJP, so you can't take it in the beta form. And the final exam has not been released yet, so as of today, you cannot write that version of the Java 7 OCAJP exam either. But in about three months the new version will be released and you will be able to take it.
