which component can i use in this case ?

which component is use to support intelli sence in most IDE for eg when pressed ctrl+space we are presented with the list of same options ?
i guess its an popup menu filled with menu items , is it ? invokes on key event or key binding
or is something different ?

note : please don't say to view the source code of netbeans or eclipse
