Where to begin?

Hello, I'm sorry if this has been asked a billion times, but is there a specific way to start developing mobile apps? What exactly is different in the code? Is there just a different IDE? How easy is it to upload your app and use it yourself? Anything that can help I would appreciate it... I haven't gone out and searched on my own yet, I figured this forum would be the best place to start.
