This week's book giveaway is in the OO, Patterns, UML and Refactoring forum. We're giving away four copies of Refactoring for Software Design Smells: Managing Technical Debt and have Girish Suryanarayana, Ganesh Samarthyam & Tushar Sharma on-line! See this thread for details.
There's nothing wrong with using this technique to transfer information from one page to the next as long as you remember the following:
Never use it for sensitive information such as a credit card number or a price. It can be read by anyone who knows how to use the "view source" function and it can also be "spoofed", meaning someone could create a copy-cat HTML page and substitue the correct data with incorrect data.
Putting a huge amount of data in hidden fields is going to slow down the response time as all that data has to go back and forth over the network.
