I passed the OCPJP 6 certification exam on my second attempt; it was a challenging exam. I studied off and on for about a year, took the SCJP 6 exam, and failed it. After I failed it, I studied for it again for about a year and I passed it on my second attempt. I used the study guide written by Sierra & Bates and another book by Sierra & Bates that contains four mock exams. I enjoyed studying for the exam because my knowledge of Java significantly increased.
I have some work experience in Java. I got my first software engineering job over 3.5 years ago. I do both coding and testing.

I had questions that dealt with all of the material covered in the study guide written by Sierra & Bates. For example, there were questions that dealt with interfaces, exception handling, threads, generics, collections, development, the comparable interface, the comparator interface, inner classes, object-oriented concepts and so on. I would suggest that people know the methods of the different classes such as the String class, File class, DateFormat class, and so on.
All of the questions were multiple choice. There were 60 questions and I was given 2.5 hours to complete the exam. The minimum passing score is 61%.
