GlassFish wouldn't start on Red Hat Linux server

Hi all,

I have installed Glassfish by downloading the zip version and unpacking it on my RHE 5 server. However, when I try to start Glassfish, I get the following error message: “There is a process already using the admin port 4848 -- it probably is another instance of a GlassFish server. Command start-domain failed.”
This is not true as no services is currently utilizing the port in question:
Found out by using netstat -tnap | grep \:4848

I have added 127.0.0.1 localhost to my etc/host file (got the idea for this by researching this forum for similar issues) but that hasn’t helped.

The contents of my server.log files are:
-------------------------------server.log-------------------------------------------------------
/usr/glassfish3/glassfish/domains/domain1/logs/server.log

I would appreciate any help I can get here.
Thanks.

It is sorta covered in the JavaRanch Style Guide.
