As a childhood fan of Tom Swift Jr, this tickled me...

For some reason, Tom Swift never entered my consciousness as a kid, though his role was filled for me by Danny Dunn. If you're interested in a loving tribute / hysterical lampoon of the Tom Swift character, and 20th C. children's lit in general, I highly recommend the "Pals in Peril" series by M.T. Anderson, co-starring the indefatigable Jasper Dash, boy technonaut. The first one, "Whales on Stilts!", is still one of my favorite bits of humor of any medium.
