can Python replace java code with the same or better performance/security?

I am a long time java user, but much interested in python, a new(est)bie in python. I want to know that, what are the advancement of python over java, and what part it legs than java. Well on web development part, security is concerned more, so even if we don't use python on jvm, does it provide the same level of security/options that java have?
