Webgames in java.

Does anyone have some experience in making web games in java?

I have an idea for webgame, where you have website interface, where you can do all pre-game stuff, management and so on and actuall game will run in applet. It's not much of a game idea as idea for architecture(I guess). This seems to me as doable thing, but is it ideal? I have several quetions regarding performance, security, scalability. Which Java technology should I use? Or should I use something different than Java? For example php, flash or something else?

Your questions are hard to answer without really knowing what kind of a game you intend to make. What kind of pre-game stuff are we talking about? What's the game going to look like, and how is the user going to interact?
