Hi,

Is backgroundcolor: no longer in use.I am unable to change the background color of the webpage

Are you sure that your page is not cached and you are not getting the updates?
Do you see anything overriding the value in the CSS tab in the browser's debugger?

Whats wrong with this below code snippet then I am using IE 8 and Google Chrome in both the background color is white

Use regular quote characters.

You answered to Eric that you are using fancy quote characters cut and past from a book. Those won't work. Use regular quote characters. (ASCII 34)
