I'm unable to find the standard.jar and the jstl.jar files in the lib of the tomcat, the main problem lies is how to know the uri while using the core tags JSP

I am not sure if they should be available in tomcat bundle by default. I have added to my web application class path. For uri, unzip jstl.jar, you should find meta-inf folder and in that you should find various tlds like c.tld, fmt.tls etc. Open one of the file and you can see actual URI. They are pretty standard. http://docs.oracle.com/javaee/1.4/tutorial/doc/JSTL3.html In case you don't want to do that exercise.

Update : I just downloaded the latest Tomcat and checked, JSTL.jar does not come with default bundle.
