What is specifications in java?

Some companies use Java specifications. I do not understand much about it.

Your question is pretty vague. What do you mean by Some companies use Java specifications? Do you mean Java Language Specification? As per my knowledge, using JLS is pretty specialized field, as it is generally done while developing proprietary JDK/JVM different than Oracle's version (e.g. IBM JDK).

Also, what exactly you did not understand about it? You can download JLS and go through it (if you want) and let us know in case of any issue.

Here is the JLS. Do you mean that people specify programs before creating them? That is a completely different subject, meaning program design to perform a particular function.

It really is. Things are like EJB and JPA are also sometimes called 'specifications', so I suspect you need to give us more information on the type of specification you're talking about.
