help with keylistener

Hey guys, I'm having trouble figuring out how can I use the keylistener in order to 'listen' for keys in-putted into a JTextfield and these keys will trigger a search method through a database, note that these keys are unique so for example I have database with a unique student number, and I want all the other details regarding this student by simply inputting the unique id.

thanks man, i ll research about this document listener ;),
if any of you guys have any ideas, im open to new ideas.
