WebLogic 9.2: Deploying An Exploded Dir Application

I am running WebLogic 9.2 on my work computer as a development environment.
I've found it easy enough to create "deployments" from WAR files.
I just bring up the admin page, lock and edit, go to deployments, create a new one and point WebLogic at the WAR file.
I tried doing the same with a directory full of simple JSPs, but got an error message form WL saying that it couldn't find any relevant files.
I named the root directory "test" :
I have a "war" subdirectory and inside of that a "JSP" directory with the jsps.
Do I need a WEB-INF dir and do I need a web.xml, and if so, what would I put in the web.xml if I only have JSPs?
Thanks in advance
It is sorta covered in the
JavaRanch Style Guide
