Is it possible to create a webpage/website is java? If yes, what is the technology called and what books would you recommend?

My preliminary search found either nothing or: http://www.ehow.com/how_5615764_build-website-using-java.html but it's not it. It's just writting strings to a file. Lame. I am looking for something like php - a file .php has a code that is different than what is visible to user.

in case the question is (again) unclear: Is there something similar to JDBC/Hibernate but for making websites?

if you want to use actual Java code, then servlets are for you: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Java_Servlet

JSPs should not contain Java code (stylistically, that's bad design what the Wikipedia page shows).

Through your link I found GlassFish. Google shows me that people are all hyped about it. I will investigate what it is.

GlassFish is just one implementation of a Java web server -- and actually, not the most popular one. There are quite a few implementations out there... In no particular order, there is Weblogic, Websphere, JBoss, and of course, Tomcat.
