Hi Guys,

I just upgraded my JDK to version 1.7. Code that I had in a project appears to be throwing an SQLException where it didn't before. My connect method is as follows:

Normall I would call this method like so:

String TargetAccessPath = "C:\\Users\\admin\\Desktop\\AdminServices.mdb";
String query = "SELECT * FROM DEPARTMENTS;";
String[] fields = {"DEPARTMENT"};
Connection conn = getConnection(TargetAccessPath);
....

This method opens a Microsoft Access Database, well, until now. Following is my stack trace. Could someone please explain what I need to do to get this working again.

Alan

Hi Guys,

Listen I just figured out what was wrong. I guess things have changed somewhat in how you connect to an Access database. It used to be all you needed to do was provide a String path to the database and pass that along as part of the URL to the DriverManager.getConnection(...) method. They have us doing an extra step now. Apparently you have to go into the Windows Control Panel and select the Data Source dialog to register a DNS database name, description, and location path before you can execute your java code. I wonder what other hoops they're going to make us jump through in JDK version 8 release?

You mean "Windows 8" rather than "JDK version 8", right? Because it's Microsoft which has been making all the improvements to ODBC, not Oracle.

I have only tried to use odbc once, and I had to do that stuff in control panel, a few years ago (maybe 3 or 4 years)
