All,

Today I cleared OCMJEA Part 1 exam with 85%. The below are my experience regarding preparation and exam. Thanks to coderanch and all of you. I spent considerable time in this forum last few days, which really made the difference.

- I took around 3 months to prepare.
- I tried epractice labs and oracle mock exams. Both are very good. I recommend taking oracle mock exams to get the feel of how the real exam questions will be. Because I find epracticelabs are lot tougher than actual exam. But its good though, it will make us understand the concept better instead of just trying to pass the exam.
- I had some of the questions as it is came from the mock exams.
- Review the questions and answers atleast 2 times after the first round of completion in the exam. It helped me to fix some of the mistakes I made.

I downloaded the Part 2 now (Utility International). I am very much looking forward to complete Part 2 and 3 soon. Cheers!

congrats Karthik !
can you share how many questions you got from design patterns section (gang of 4 & core j2ee patterns) ?
also can you confirm epractize labs exams are tougher than real exam or are they similar in difficulty level?
good luck with parts 2 & 3

Rajeev,

Thanks for the wishes. There was only 4 or 5 questions from Design patterns (both gof and j2ee). I would suggest to see first which patterns are still relevant for EJB 3 and J2EE 5 and study only those. I spent lot of time taking design patterns quiz (try google search) and Mikalai Zaikin notes to really get the patterns. Then definitely epracticze labs exams are tougher or covering more detail oriented questions than real exam. I would suggest to use oracle mock exam as benchmark for difficulty level for real exam. Then I had good chunk of questions as it is from epractice and oracle mock exams. Again this is based on my experience with the exam. All the best for your preparation. Let me know if you need any other info. I am happy to share here.

thank you Karthik. that was really helpful. i will focus more on j2ee patterns. i found it really tough to memorize pros and cons of all patterns even though used most of core j2ee patterns in real life. thanks again for clarification
