What is "diy"? (UseRealWords)
What do you mean by "no joy"? (TellTheDetails)

It is difficult to help if we have to guess what the problem is.

ok each time I try the ctrl space option for code completion I get no suggestions no matter what combination I try., ctrl alt space ctrl back_slash space etc. I tried installing the jstl library into the web inf project folder for the web application but that doesn't work. I'm working according to netbeans ecommerce tutorial I am at the stage where I need to test database connectivity to my sql database from a testdatasource jsp by inserting a DB Report. on the jsp page each time I try to invoke code completion I get nothing no suggestions. I've tinkered a lot with the code editor through the tools>options menu, still no luck. Hope this is clearer.

i want you to check the following,

in Netbeans, go to Tools->Options->Editor->Code Completion.

In this window,

All languages must be selected for languages.
Auto PopupCompletion Window Check-Box must be Checked.
Auto PopupDocumentation Window Check-Box must be checked.
Insert Single Proposals Automatically Check-Box must be checked.
Show Depricated Members In Code Completion Check-Box must be checked.
Insert Closing Brakets Automatically Check_Box must be checked.

and one more thing, go to Tools->Options->Keymap and check what is the combination for Show Code Completion Popup ( the key combination is the reqiured combination)

make sure all the above is right, i think it will solve your issue.

Even after all this the problem exist then uninstall and reinstall NetBeans.

Thanks but unfortunately I'm still getting the same message. Double checked all the option settings. Fresh install, I still get the same message.

Hey Frederick... So interesting how I have been facing the same problem in NetBeans 7.1.1
And just when I thought I was alone, I saw your post.
Anyways, I found a way around it. It appears to me that the NetBeans popup features in Mac OS works slightly different from that of Windows, or it could be the versions of the NetBeans software poses the difficulty.
What you need to do is this;
1. Make sure the JSP file you're working in is opened.
2. Go to Window - Palette
3. In the Palette area, Choose the Database option... (it expands)
4. Click DB Report and without Releasing your mouse, drag the feature to the position in your file where you want it.

That's it... Your Insert DB Report dialog appears...
Have fun.
Hope it works for you.

Thanks it worked I kept trying to fiddle with adding libraries hoping that would help. I probably should have persisted a little more.
