This week's book giveaway is in the OO, Patterns, UML and Refactoring forum. We're giving away four copies of Refactoring for Software Design Smells: Managing Technical Debt and have Girish Suryanarayana, Ganesh Samarthyam & Tushar Sharma on-line! See this thread for details.
A significant part of Java 7 is the extensive support for file/directory operations. The directory traversal techniques (SimpleFileVistor) and the support for WatchEvents are nice. One area where this could be further expanded upon in Java 8 could be in GUI support for these type classes. Either better integration between these classes and the GUI components or new components could be developed that directly support these features would be nice. It would simplify application development and augment the GUI interface.
