I have java 6 installed and the environment variables set up. I am not seeing the error that i keep running into when searching for this problem dealing with findstr not being found. Simply tells me run is not recognized. I am using jboss 5.1.0GA

If anyone has any ideas please let me know. If you would like any info please let me know.

Exactly how are you starting JBoss AS? From the command line? As a service? Usually, from the command line, you first 'cd' into the jboss_home/bin directory and then enter run.

Try run.bat

Do this. Edit the run.bat file and comment out or remove the "@echo off" line. Then run it again and post the full command line output, including the command you entered. (Copy and paste as text, don't do a screen shot)

As do this. In the command prompt, type "set" and hit enter. Post the output.

ok finally realized this morning what it was. Complete failure on my part to not realize the most obvious thing . . . . jboss was missing the run.bat file. I dont know how this happened or why it was missing this file but i got my friend to send me his and it works now.
