well as the server connects to the database, that is all exactly the same as normal.
And as far as I am aware everything is the same whether the user is on a mobile or a pc, but I will pass you to some people who will know for certain.

Are you asking about connectivity other than through a browser?

Are you talking about j2me mobile devices, android, iPhone or something else? Please TellTheDetails
As far as my knowledge goes, you cannot communicate with a server from a landline. Voice activated menu could be an option, but I doubt that is what you are looking for.

Sorry sir,

but let me explain me about my project.

i am trying to develop a project for consumer services.

such that the consumer can register their water related complaint to the Water department
via a online complaining or my sending text message from a cell phone.

i did the online complaining part but having query on how to do connectivity or all,so that first the consumer
register his/her number and he/she send complaints through text.

Please help me out in this.

Do you want the mobile device to send an SMS directly? Not sure how JME works, but on Android you'd create an Intent that you can pre-fill with the text and the number to send the SMS to. The user would then just have to confirm to send it. I'd assume that JME has a similar capability.

OK, then it's pretty easy for Android using Intents as I mentioned. For JME you probably better ask the JME forum.

But it just occurred to me that you never said that you wanted to do this from a mobile app; do you? Or are you asking about server-side handling of incoming SMSs?

How would your server receive SMS unless you're a telco provider?

Tim is right (i did a bit of reading first time round and hoped somebody who actually knew the answer would get here before i had to add my vauge understanding)

you basically need a phone number set up and some hardware to recieve the calls, then it is a case of routing the calls into the java, just like any other network (I THINK)

here is a thread on stack overthrow about java sms libraries.

http://stackoverflow.com/questions/10309139/sms-java-libraries

and i found this about the actual pc setup (search text "receive sms on pc")

http://www.developershome.com/sms/howToReceiveSMSUsingPC.asp

quite a lot of fun reading there. I look forward to hearing back from you when you have read that lot and have further questions
