I am using html-el :select tag to build my dropdown. I want to be able to display tooltip when I hover the mouse on different options available in the list.
Can you please tell me how to do it? Per my undersatding the title attribute does not work for dropdown(even if does not in all browsers).

Vani,

You can do this by using the jQuery....In jQuery we have a lot of plugins and samples for the same. In that you can find a Tooltip plugin also. Just include that plugins and try to implement in your code....That's it...The path for the same is http://jquery.com/plugins/project/tooltip.

Let me know if you need further help....

Functionality wise both are same. But if you use jQuery tooltip plugin you can develop different types of tooltips. Moreover if you use jquery with ajax you will get a nice design. I am sure it is the convenient one. Try this out and let me know your comments.

yes I'm interested in seeing jQuery being used with struts. Almost every single demo or example I have seen uses "PHP". Further, It will be great to see how tooltip is implemented so there is different tool tip for each element in drop down list.

looking forward to OP's or patricia's tries

Thank you.
Yes, I am using code from this. http://www.dynamicdrive.com/dynamicindex5/dhtmltooltip2.htm.

This shows up tolltip when I hover the mouse on select box, which is good but I would like to show tool tip when I hover mouse on each options(items) shown in the dropdwon. I mean I expand the dropdowwn, and as and when I hover the mouse on each of the item, a tool tip must be shown. Is there any event to capture on mouse over of each of the option list?

Hi,

To display simple system based tooltips which are compatible with all browsers/os etc. then use this:

<select name="somedropdown">
<option value="MyValue" title="My Big Title which will show as tooltip when mouse is on it">Some Small Title</option>
</select>

Hope this helps.

Thanks.

'title' attribute for 'options' of a select tag works in almost all newer versions of standard browsers like IE and Mozilla. However I have experienced that it doesn't work in IE6.
