A quick question that will hopefully generate a long answer.

I have seen mention of JForum3 in a few places now and am interested in what is being poured into the next release.

Is there somewhere/someone that can give us with an interest in the future direction this new release is going to take JForum?

I have seen reference to Hibernate amongst other pieces. Can we get an idea of what is coming? I ask mainly so I can help test on our Solaris 10 (x86) platform and ensure that it isn't a Tomcat only release.

One piece that is difficult to find in this project is documentation regarding development. Is there a mailing list? Is there an archive? Is Confluence being used or JIRA or ???

I really appreciate this project in providing an alternative to PHP forums but need more information going forward to continue using it in the long term.

Thanks.
E/.

You can maybe check 3.0 out from the 3.0 branch of CVS. Or see "Road Map" at http://www.jforum.net/jira

I would like to know when 2.1.7 will be the current released and when 3.0 will be HEAD in CVS. I would like to start working on learning 3.0, but not until it works OK.

2.1.7 is being delayed due some issues with the database schema and stability of the system under massive load. That was an unexpected thing that appeared last week.

The documents about JForum 3.0 will be released as soon as we define the general structure of the code. A new website in comming - in fact, it's done, but it is waiting for jforum 2.1.7.

For now, I can say that JForum 3.0 is going to use VRaptor - http://www.vraptor.org - as web framework, Hibernate 3, Lucene and Java 5.

I think she's lovely. It's this tiny ad that called her crazy:
