How to contribute? - And where to introduce ourselves?

Helo,

We are using JForum on more than 50 sites. In order to make it work in our environment we had to do some changes to the system. Most of these changes is something we would like to give back to the community in some way or another. We would also like to discuss with your developers new features. We have core developers with more than 10 years of experience that can be dedicated to the project.

But I find it very hard to find out how this should be done when reading your site. On the "Meet the team" page you say that contributions are more than welcome, but that we shoud introduce ourselves before we can gain access to the source.

I see that your mailinglist in java.net is used only for announcing cvs-changes. So I guess this is not the way to get in contact
I also tried to mail you, as I was told to on the jforum.net site. But I understand that you probably get a lot of mails regarding this issue.

So I have some questions I hope that you will answer:

Is this forum the only place where the developers have their discussions?

How many active developers are there on this project?

Where should we introduce ourselves in order to have a chance to join the project? Here?

Are you interested in more developers on the project?

How should we proceed in order to get started with contributing to the JForum system?

I'm looking forward to hear from you since your reply will have deep inpact on what our developers will be working on in the time to come.

Best regards,

Jakob

Hello Jakob,

so, here we go.

For individual developers who want to participate on JForum, a good start is to read JForum - How to help and Join the JForum Team.

At this exact moment, there are 5 people working on JForum - two very active, and the other 3 on a more sporadic fashion. Some of them are working on JForum 3.

And yes, it would be really great to have more help on the project, speciall from an organized team / company. There are many areas where that kind of help can be applied, not just coding.

About how to get started, we would like to know how do you expect from JForum, and how you can contribute to it.

I've also requested the developer role on java.net

So, the rest is up to you

I'm looking forward to hear from you soon!
