Newly-created Category/Forum not displayed in the Admin Interface

Hi,

I'm using the 2.1.7 version of the JForum.

1. I had created a few new categories in the Admin Interface, but it wasnt displayed in the Categories page. I'm confirmed it was succesfully inserted into the table, as it was also listed in the category pull down menu when creating a new forum.

2. Newly-created forum also not displayed in the Forum listing page in the Admin Interface.

p/s: however, both newly created categories/forums were displayed in the forum index page.

Is it a bug or something?

Any help would be much appreciated. Thanks.

cheers,
julius

Did you remember to give the Admin group permissions to the forums that aren't showing up in the Admin Console?

I have pretty much the same issue with creating new forums - though I dont understand your response at all gatorbait3.

There is no way to "allow" an admin to see the forum. There's only ways to "forbid" him to see.

When I create the forum, and forbid access to the "custom" general group (I used 'registerd users' for this purpose), it would not allow the administrator to see this forum anymore.

only if I create the forum without ANY restrictions at all, the admin will see the created forum.

Looks like a bug to me ...

So by not "forbidding" groups or users, I guess you have "allowed" them permission? Whatever works for you ...

and: i did not forbid access for the admin, yet the forum is not listed whenever i restrict other groups

which does not really work fine for me ;)

Would be nice if it was a simple thing to fix. Maybe you have an idea where I should look first.
of course it could be done the "hard" way by not restricting anything and then going ot the groups page and set the permissions there ....

Which entries will have to be deleted incase of those "shadow" forums? That is which tables are affected? jforum_forums doesnt even seem to be the forum used for displaying. as after i deleted entries there, those entries still where being shown for some users...

I'm using the current beta.

Version 2.1.7 was way too buggy.

The database in use is the one created by version 2.1.7 (running on mysql)

This is a known bug that was marked as won't fix:

http://www.jforum.net/jira/browse/JF-597

FWIW, I didn't realize there was a beta so I compared it to the latest 2.1.7-b3 download... there is 3 lines of code difference between the two (and some jar and hsql config stuff). So the beta's not really that much more bug free.
