I'm in the process of trying to learn this forum software and so far am getting the hang of it. But i got a question....As a regular user of a forum with no special permissions of mod or admin, is it possible to collapse a particular group or hide it temporarily?

Not using the default templates in the 2.x series. There was some discussion of implementing a full "Category tree" model in 3.0. E.g., Viewing a list of forums in a category, having categories under categories, and possibly different template styles for each category. But that is probably not high on the 3.0 ToDo list.

That said, it is possible (and some folks have said they've done it), to modify the template files (those *.htm files under the templates directory...) to include some Dynamic HTML/Javascript code to do this without changing the basic Java code.

It's just a matter of wrapping the list of forums under a category header in a div and then adding an "onClick" event to the category header to hide or show the div.

If I remeber right, there is a posting in the forums from a while back with some sample JavaScript code, etc.
