I have been out of touch with Java programming since 2008, want to catchup and see how far has it improved. Looking forward to read this new book hopefully will bring me to the latest and greatest in the Java/J2EE area.

J2SE 5.0 (Sept 30, 2004) brought in several additions to Java language. After this Java SE 7 (July 7, 2011) introduced many new additions. In between, there were no changes in the language syntax. If you have used Java till 2008, then you have not missed anything except for all the new additions (really major) in Java SE 7. Chapter 1 of the book summarizes changes made in each major release of Java. Reading the book would certainly help you in bringing you up-to-date with Java SE.

I am into Java/J2EE programming and would like to know about the details of this book and would also like to know how this book is different from other Java books available in the market.

Rush Kreek, welcome to the Ranch
If you are interested in winning the book, you would need to ask a question in another thread than this one.
