Groovy XML - Valid or Not?

i just recently got into a project that contains groovy.

i've noticed that some of the closing tags have an extra '>' character.

e.g.
<#return result>>

we aren't seeing problems but to me, this looks way off...

does the groovy parser just ignore the extra characters or should i be concerned?

tia!
