OCMJD SE7, JavaFX?

Hi there,

I'd like to register for the OCMJD assignment.
However, I guess it wouldn't make much sense to go for the current SE6/Swing version at this point, since SE7 has been released for quite a while now and JavaFX is replacing Swing as the new client UI library for Java SE.

This raises two questions I hope any of you will be able to answer:
1. Would it be allowed to take the SE6 assignment while making use of SE7 and/or JavaFX?
2. If not, is there any clue about the launch data of the SE7 version? (I presume the assignments will stay the same)

Thanks in advance!
Robin.

Hi Robin,

First of all, a warm welcome to the JavaRanch!

Then an answer to your questions:

1/ You can use SE7 to develop the SE6 assignment, but you can't use JavaFX for the client-side part. If you do, you violate this must requirement:
instructions.html wrote:The user interface for this assignment must satisfy the following criteria:
It must be composed exclusively with components from the Java Foundation Classes (Swing components).

2/ I have no clue about a launch date of the SE7 version. But the instructions of the current assignments didn't change since JDK 1.4 was the current java version. So i doubt if they'll update the instructions when the SE7 version is released.

Hope it helps!
Kind regards,
Roel

Thanks a bunch mister bar tender .
Seems like it wouldn't make much sense to wait until JavaFX is officially allowed, then.

Version SE6 it is.

Good luck!

Just out of curiosity: which (mandatory) course will (or did) you follow?

I attended the Java Performance Tuning training, since it seemed to be the only one that would add any value, really (even though I don't see how this would directly relate to the OCMJD exam).
On the positive side, it turned out to be quite informative and we had a very enthousiastic teacher.

I agree. Here's the link: http://aspose.com/file-tools
