Maurice Sendak died today, at 83. He was the author and illustrator of two of my favorite books from childhood: Where The Wild Things Are and The Night Kitchen. Both are weird and wonderful, beautiful and scary, and totally unlike any other book I read as a kid.

The Night Kitchen is a formative memory of mine. Unsettling and captivating for two-year-old me.

An amazing talent, truly one of a kind. I hope future generations will still read his books untainted by the memory of that wretched, wretched "Wild Things" movie.

Got to know about him from a segment on the Colbert Report just a couple of months back. That was perhaps the most funniest interview I've seen till now!
