Under Tomcat(5.5.17) i want to check log file(i.e localhost.2008-03-17.log).
But i am not able to open these file because these log files are locked by Tomcat.I have to stop Tomcat then it is possible to check these log files.
How can i check Tomcat log files while tomcat server is running?

Thanks

I don't think that even if a file is locked you can't read it. The problem should arise if you're trying to write something into that file.

What OS are you using and how are you trying to open the file?
I've used Tomcat under WinXP, Linux and Solaris and never had a problem viewing log files.

One possible cause of this problem might be the text editor you're using to open the log file. If you try to use Windows wordpad, you'll get this problem because wordpad tries to lock the file. If you'll just use notepad or some other non-locking editor, you should be able to see the log file just fine.
