use GPars to quicken simultaneous downloads?

My groovy script reads a list of filePaths and downloads the files to a directory. As it is currently written it loops through the list. Basic stuff.

Would the use of GPars, say, of fork/join hasten this task? Would some kind of parallelism enable allocation of the downloading work to multiple processors? And should this be true, would I be able to preserve the order of processing guaranteed by a traditional loop?
