Recently i have taken a project in asp.net in which VS 2010 IDE allows and supports functionalities like adding Ajax toolkit which simplifies most of the development process and allow us to create nice & professional UI's, i just want to know do this things or similar exits for making j2ee web application or one has to write lot of javascript to make this work?

JSF and the newer J2EE 6 frameworks can do this also.

You can also add Ajax support using other third parties such as dwr and zk.

As for writing javascript, these will shield you from much of that.. but any framework will still require some.
