Java Speech API - Looks like fun

I have just come across the Java Speech API which looks like fun to have a play around with. Not read anything about it yet, but will be reading whatever I can find on the subject over the next few months.

Has anyone else had any experience with this before or managed to do anything cool? Any pointers?

I have some experience on this api but i have several problems with the synthetiser and recogniton engines (external softwares), because the api just manage this engines, as it can take the results and generate events, as you can make applications based in voice, it is what i am trying, and apologize my english please, im brazilian
