Hey all,

Guess you like to become a software engineer, and you already have qualifications but no working experience. But, you have to go for a job which not related to software, but related to something else, like administrative, management, network or whatever. What do you do in this case? wait until you find the job you like ( in this case think you are less than between 20-24 years, If you are more than that, then of course, you got no option)? Join whatever the job you get? If you join any job out side of software, will that experience help you to become a software engineer one day (that one day doesn't mean after 30 years, that means maximum after 1 year)? because in vacancies, they ask "2 years of development", "2 years of j2ee in hand" etc, not just "2 years of whatever experience" . what will you do? If you select another career, won't you get stuck again, because the road to software section is already closed for you? (because then companies may say " you have working experience in Management/admin/network and it is better to work in that side"). This is open for a discussion.

Thanks

Are you better than me? Then please show me my mistakes..

Dear Yohan,

Even I am trying to get in Software as the domain in which i am working has very limited access to Java...But it has benefitted me a lot as I come to know the Infrastructure of the Corporates and how the workflow is around here. Also in my mind I am trying to map my working with Java Programming ... for instance there are differnt Busines units and I am considering them as Objects interacting with each other and to interact certain kind of approval is required etc etc....

Dear Yohan,

The Domain in which i am working the web application is already in production , that was developed in Java, jsp ,servlets..I make minor changes in it only incase required...I also deployed a test instance of Disaster Recovery of that web portal..Also i have some additional responsibilities with other applications like Management Console etc..So i get very little exposure of Java technology, but I still continue to read SCJP6 , HFS JSP and Servlets and i love it

Also i have Collegues who did PHD in Physics but now are in Java Programming , .net , XML

I have Many seniors with me who did Commerce but now are into Windows domain.... So you cant expect what kind of Job you might end up into.
