secure web sockets v. web sockets

Hello I have a chat program that I built with websockets written in java. It works fine using ws but will not connect using wss. I am using jetty 8.1.0.rc5. I cannot find alot of info on the web so I thought I would try here and see if anyone knows what the problem is.
