Since last few months I have been doing Java SE 6 certification preparation. But now there is Java 7.
Does that mean Java SE 6 is no more relevant? OR we should go for Java SE 7 Certification?
This is really a panic changing from one to another while you are in the middle of SE 6.
i won't say that java 6 certification won't be relevant. but yes if you do ocpjp 7 in the first point it would may have greater weightage. if you are starting from scratch i say you go fro ocpjp 7. but remember that for ocpjp 7 certification now you have to clear associate exam(ocja 7) or you must have previous programmer certification.
So you are saying better to go with SE 7 but we need to clear SE Associated 7 exam first? I have like 10+ yrs of exp in Web Application Development (well, not in java)
But still we need to give ASSOCIATE exam for SE 7?
While for SE 6 we don't need to do SE 6 Associate exam if we have experience.
yes for scjp/opcjp 6 exam you don't have to give any pre-requisite exam i.e you don't have to give associate exam. but for ocpjp 7 either you should have previous scjp certification or you give ocaj 7 associate exam. there is no point of experience in certification. 10+ yrs experience is really great but you won't have any advantage as far as certification rules/policies are concerned. for more information please read scjp faq's at http://faq.javaranch.com/java/ScjpFaq
