This week's book giveaway is in the OCAJP 8 forum. We're giving away four copies of OCA Java SE 8 Programmer I Study Guide and have Edward Finegan & Robert Liguori on-line! See this thread for details.
I am using terminal to install Tomcat 6 on my mac, so basically installing it on Linux. I get an error message when I check the logs which I cannot find how to solve anywhere. It seems like a similar message that some people have had for which the solution was to change the encoding of tomcat-users.xml to utf-8 however when I go to the file it is already set to that format. The log file is as follows:
INFO: The APR based Apache Tomcat Native library which allows optimal performance in production environments was not found on the java.library.path: .:/Library/Java/Extensions:/System/Library/Java/Extensions:/usr/lib/java

SEVERE: Parse Fatal Error at line 40 column 1: XML document structures must start and end within the same entity.
org.xml.sax.SAXParseException: XML document structures must start and end within the same entity.
Is that the entire exception stacktrace? If not, can you post the entire stacktrace? The error message doesn't mention the file name it is trying to parse, so maybe the entire stacktrace might give a hint.
