jQuery form validation not working

I needed to use jQuery for a project but had no idea what it is. So i followed a online tutorial and customized it according to my need .But when i run the page there is no validation. The code is given below(for a JSP page):



I havent worked with jquery or javascript before . So i may be wrong in using the right scripts. Please help

First step is to open up the JavaScript console on your browser and see if there are any errors messages being issued.

I tried doing that initially there was an error. But when i added an additional script the error went away. But the validation still doesn't occur.

OK, now start setting some breakpoints.

Where do you think are the probable places where errors can occour. It is a bit lengthy piece of code and i dont know much about javascript.
