Plug-In request panic city

I have a website that deals with the general public. They barely know what a flash plug-in is. Now, I tell them about java.Is there a painless way for somebody, with out the job a plug-in, to satisfy the requirement for Java. Going to Sun for plug-in is even in perplexing for me, and I do it quite often. I've had issues like this ever since the divorce between Microsoft and Sun.

Any help would really be appreciated.
