In general, I don't do the early adopter thing with OS releases. I usually wait six months or more so that the other folks get all the bugs.
I just upgraded my MBP to Lion a month or so ago.

I can do it now with a 10ft hdmi cord, but it is annoying to set it up and no wires with AirPlay. So for me that one feature is a big deal. Now to anyone that doesn't have AppleTV, it is a feature that really adds up to nothing.

Mark Spritzler wrote:As Gregg posted on Twitter. It appears that pre 2011 laptops will not be able to take advantage of Airplay in Mountain Lion. That sucks. But maybe that is why I didn't see it working when I tried using a developer edition and ran it in VMWare Fusion. I thought it was because it was running in a vm, but I guess not.

Greg Charles wrote:Finished the upgrade. I didn't actually have to do a clean install. It went right over my Snow Leopard server without any problem. I'm curious now about the Airplay. How do you know if your machine is compatible or not? I don't have AppleTV now, but I might get it if I could get Airplay to work from my Mac.
I've got just enough Java knowledge to royally screw everything up. :-)

Settings -> Displays
If you see Airplay Mirroring options at the bottom, you're good. Otherwise, you're mac is too old.
