1) I think such questions had been already asked, so if you do a bit of search you would get what you want and probably more than that.

2) Briefly i would say SCJP is now OCPJP

3) So if you appear for Java 6, then you can directly appear for OCPJP 6

4) If you go for Java 7, then you have to first appear for OCAJP 7 and than OCPJP 7

5) And one more thing i once saw a Author posting that Oracle won't be supporting Java 6 after November 2012, so i don't know what would happen to certification exams related to Java 6.

Don't know. Read here what the Author has to say and he's an experienced guy.

he correct word is "won't-be-supported" rather than RECOGNIZED. java 6 will continue to be recognized . the news is that there won't be anymore updates for java 6 after february 2013. the date has been extended til february. java 6 will continue to be recognized and there is no such thing that nobody will recognize/honor/value it. please use your words carefully since this is a certification forum and can cause distress. the best thing would be to post link to the source of your information , rather than wording the facts in your own words.

and regarding to certifications you know that there is no validity on java certification like we have in ccna , etc. so there won't be such thing as expiry date . although java 7 certification will have more value than java 6 , but there is nothing like that it wont be recognized or they will become useless.
