Hello!

I'm new to JAVA and have started dabbling in ti for about 1 and a half month. I'm new to prgramming, but I get the stuff easily.
I have read complete reference java by herb schildt, the Kathy Sierra Scjp6 book which m in a stage of completion and will then start with Ocjp guide by Khalid Mughal.

Does anyone reckon that I would need more concepts than that and if I do then what books should I refer?

Also, If that is enough.. the where can I get a good book that gives me a lot of code practice questions from an Ocjp point of view. Also, how much preparation is needed for Ocjp and when should I tentatively schdedule my exam for.

P.S. : I know everyone has his own learning curve .. but I woul definitely appreciate an advice from the Experts.

Thanks in advance!!!

Khalid Mughal and K&B books are good for OCPJP 6.

Plan your preparation with exam objectives (study each chapters from above books and workout practice questions).
Once you completed individual chapters, workout mock exams provided at the end of book, if your score is good you are ready to attend OCPJP 6 exam.

I do not recommend commercial exam simulators if you are interested to workout practice questions from these books by paper. If you really need to practice with software simulators try epractize labs or whizlabs.

Reading more than 1 book is often considered good thing but in some cases it can lead to hindrance also. i see that for scjp you are following two different books viz kb 6 and khalid mughal which in MY OPINION is not a good idea. i'm not a cognitive scientist but i have read that reading concepts from two different books can confused the brain and you won't absorb the concepts. i say that stick to one book(both are good but i personally prefer kb 6) and if you have doubt in any section, consult the section from the other book. now you are done with the concepts and theory i suggest you practice questions. experiment on them, tincture them. for questions you can refere OCP PRACTICE EXAM BY KATHY SEIRRA. it is a good book but i should warn you questions are of a little higher level than scjp. also certpal.com has set of 3 mock papers for scjp-but this should be done in the last stage when you will be giving your exam. the questions given at the end of each chapter of kb6 book are also excellent and again higher level than scjp. doing them after every chapter as opposed to reading whole book is the best thing and will induce learning . rest i can say that stay active here on javaranch ,browse through some of the old threads , read posts of the EXPERT people and you will find yourself much much ahead.
