I have a String with variable name problem as given below ...

problem = "<b>Date: </b>"+childElement.getAttributeValue("date")+"<br> Submitter: "+childElement.getAttributeValue("submitter")+"<br><b> Notes: </br></b>"+childElement.getText();

In my jsp, am displaying it using

<bean:write name="problem"/>,

But, the <b>,<br> tags are not getting effected.

What needs to be done?

Kindly help..

Set the filter attribute of the bean:write tag to false:

If this attribute is set to true, the rendered property value will be filtered for characters that are sensitive in HTML, and any such characters will be replaced by their entity equivalents.
