Tomcat not starting on running startup.bat

I am running
6 on windows x86.
I set JAVA_OPTS=-Xmx2048m in catalina.bat.
However after doing the changes and trying to start the server by running startup.bat the server did not start.
Am I missing anything?

Probably an error is being reported in a command prompt window which opens and closes before you can see it.
Change the last executable line in startup bat to use run instead of start and execute startup.bat from the command line of a command prompt window so the errors will appear in an open window.
call "%EXECUTABLE%" run %CMD_LINE_ARGS% rem start = new window or run - stay in command prompt window :end
