Hi Everyone,

I am going to take the exam (1Z0-850) in two weeks. I have a few questions hopefully you guys can give me some suggestions. I have two books in hand: 1. Sun Certified Programmer for Java 5 Study Guide by K.S and B. B. 2. Head First Java (2nd Edition) by the same authors.

My questions are:

1. These two books cover all exam topics until Java 5, is that good enough to take 1Z0-850? What are the topics are not covered by these two books? If not, what else book should I have?

2. Where to do the mock exam or practice questions?

Many thanks!

These topics cover much more than you need to know.

Take a look at ScjaFaq for more appropriate books and mock exams.

Those are both great books and will (way) more than prepare you for 1Z0-850, minus the technologies stuff.

Pick up any SCJA book to round out your studying needs. Cameron McKenzie's books are really good.

Hello,
I have a follow up question please. I checked the books recommended in the faq section. They're several years old. For the last 5 years, haven't there been any updates/developments on 5/6 that Oracle requires its OCAJ takers to know? Is SE 6 like an OS? Once it's out, it's out and the patches added aren't important compared to the OS itself?

You'll find the objectives really haven't changed (between OCA 5/6 and the legacy SCJA), except the removal of the UML coverage.

Studying with any of the legacy SCJA resources will give you ample coverage to pass the exam.

So to confirm, any of the 3 books (the forth is uml which you said was removed) would suffice ya? Also, just like scja was renamed to ocaj, so was the exam number right?

There are plenty of SCJA resources (e.g., mock exams and study aids) available, not just the books listed on the SCJA FAQS web page... just about all of them will suffice.

The SCJA exam is CX-310-019. The OCA 5/6 exam is 1Z0-850.

Good luck studying!

Sincerely,
Robert

Hi Robert,

I am taking 1Z0-850 Java Standard Edition 5 and 6, Certified Associate Exam in 2 weeks from now. I am preparing from SCJA Certification Guide (CX-310-019) by Cameron Mckenzie and Sun Certified Java Associate Study guide (Exam CX-310-019) by you (Robert J. Liguori) and Ed.

Both Exams 1Z0-850 and CX-310-019 are same? Am I on right track or do I have to read more to prepare 1Z0-850?

Got confused by seeing different code so need to know.

Thanks,
Navya

The acquisition of Sun Microsystems by Oracle Corporation was completed by Oracle corporation.

CX-310-019 - Sun

1Z0-850 - Oracle

Both are refer same exam. But Now SCJA 5 / 6 Certification Exam code is 1Z0-850.

Good luck!.

Yup... any of the books here will get you 95% of what you need to know on the technology items:

Of course, I'd recommend my SCJA Study Guide...

Hi all, I sat and passed my SCJA 6 exam a few days ago.

For study reference I used SCJA Study Guide, Head First, and various videos including some from Mark Lassoff, Bucky Roberts (thenewboston.org) etc. Anyone sitting that exam in the near future may be interested to hear that my classmates and I encountered no UML or 'associations' questions at all.
