Yeah, but then we keep hearing about the growing obesity epidemic in the USA...

Assuming the artist didn't tinker with the shapes of the other continents too much (North America does look wide), it looks to me like they probably came from something like a Mercator projection - over-sized northern hemisphere continents, Africa too small, etc.
