For what I do, any recent MacBook Pro has plenty of horsepower.

The biggest thing for me is pixels, and I have two choices:

- A slightly old 17"
- A new retina display

Obviously the new one is smaller and lighter hooray!

But I wonder about the little things, like finding tiny buttons (minimize, close...), with my mouse.

Anyone have any experience using both of these machines? Got any usability feedback?

Stop using your mouse. There are shortcut keys for that sort of stuff. Then you don't have to worry about not being able to find the tiny buttons. Problem solved.

Gregg,

Point taken and largely a good direction for me to take...

But it seems you might be able to minimize mouse usage but even if I learned all the shortcuts, I'd still need to use the mouse a little. I guess I'm not willing to go back to Vi

I don't think you are going to see really small close window buttons. Just because it is more pixels on the screen like you would normally get when you increase the resolution.

Hey Mark,

I went to the Apple store and played around with the retina display. It's got five or so resolution modes and I set it to the finest resolution 1920x1200. Those close and minimize buttons were TINY, as were the scrollbars. I know their are gestures for some of these things...
